Beauty improves my mood. Have you noticed that as well personally?

Whether it's a beautiful picture of wildflowers on Pinterest, one of my sister's homemade cards, or an intricate tea cup, the sight of beauty in any form soothes my heart and improves my mood.

Many of us are drawn to pretty things - that's a part of being a girl, isn't it? Maybe it's anything cottage core, flowery, or vintage that catches your eye, or elegant dresses, soaps with lovely wrappings, or a stylish accessory.

I believe that God gave us this love and desire for beauty and to add and draw in that beauty to our lives.

But it's hard to see, to lift up our eyes from our screens, our work and really see it sometimes.

We grow blind to the beauty in our every day. Our "beautyscope" fades and we get caught up in the hustle and bustle of life, forgetting that beauty can soothe internal, emotional aches like balm to a hurt.

Sister, let's soften our gaze and search out the beauty balm. Take a mental note, snap a picture, or write it down. Designate a journal to document our treasures or create a folder of pictures to look at and remember.

When we open our eyes to the blessings, the gifts all around us, we notice more and more until we overflow.

If you're drawn to a beauty journal like I am, here's a list to inspire you:

  • A quiet sunset, a myriad of colors awash in the sky

  • Sunshine on my face

  • A tiny ladybug on a rose leaf

  • Cool breeze flowing past

  • Joyful birdsong

  • A delicate gold necklace

  • A sweet smelling red rose

  • Laughter bubbling forth from loved ones

  • The quiet, steady ticking of a clock

  • Early morning quiet

  • The feel of a new book

  • The smell of an old one

  • A pet's soft fur

  • Vintage keys

  • Cottage core dresses

  • A warm mug

  • Cozy clothes

  • A meal with family

I hope this inspires you to start your own beauty journal, or to open your eyes to the blessings all around us, the beauty in the day to day.
